Frequently asked questions about Social Silencer

Short, direct answers to the questions people ask most before buying.

What does Social Silencer collect?

Social Silencer collects no posts, messages, contacts, profiles or feed content. Settings and custom selectors stay in the browser through chrome.storage. Only a random installation ID and a device secret reach the licence server, and the device secret is stored there as a SHA-256 hash for verification.

This answer summarises the key point of this page.

What is Social Silencer?
Social Silencer is a Chrome extension that hides the distracting home feed on LinkedIn and X and is designed to keep the remaining platform functions usable.
How much does Social Silencer cost?
Social Silencer costs USD 9.90 per month, billed through Whop.
Can I cancel monthly?
Yes. The subscription can be cancelled any time with no minimum term, through the Whop subscription management.
Do I need a user account?
No. Access is granted through a random installation ID, so no email and no password are required.
Which browsers are supported?
Social Silencer is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension and runs in Chrome and other Chromium browsers such as Edge, Brave, Opera and Arc.
Does it read my LinkedIn or X content?
No. Posts, messages, contacts, profiles and feed content are neither collected nor transmitted nor stored.
What data reaches the server?
Only a random installation ID and a random device secret, which is stored server-side as a SHA-256 hash only — used for checkout and license verification.
Is a browser fingerprint created?
No. No browser fingerprints or hardware identifiers are created and no advertising profiles are built.
Can I hide additional elements?
Yes. You can add your own CSS selectors and the matching elements are hidden as well.
Do messaging and job search still work?
Yes. Only the feed is hidden — messaging, notifications, jobs, search and profiles work as before.
What if LinkedIn or X change their layout?
The bundled rules are maintained, and until an update ships you can hide the affected area yourself with a custom CSS selector.
How do I delete my local data?
Uninstall or reset the extension — this removes the settings and selectors stored locally via chrome.storage.
Does it work on several machines?
Each installation gets its own ID, and access is tied to that individual installation.
Who operates Social Silencer?
The provider is Mons Altus Ventures GmbH, Neubaugasse 24, 8020 Graz, Austria; contact: office@mav.gmbh.
How do I install the extension?
Add Social Silencer to Chrome from the Chrome Web Store listing, pin it to the toolbar and open the popup. The Chrome Web Store listing is not published yet; this page will link to it as soon as it is live.
How do I cancel?
Cancel in your Whop subscription management. The subscription then ends at the end of the period you already paid for.
What happens if a payment fails?
Whop notifies you about the failed charge. Access stays active until the paid period ends and becomes inactive afterwards until a payment succeeds again.
Do you offer refunds?
We do not publish a separate refund policy beyond your statutory rights. If you believe a charge was wrong, email office@mav.gmbh and we will look at the individual case.
Does it work in private or incognito windows?
Chrome disables extensions in incognito by default. You can allow Social Silencer in incognito under chrome://extensions; we have not tested every incognito edge case.
Can I use it in several browsers?
Each installation creates its own installation ID and needs its own unlock, because a licence is bound to one installation.
Which permissions does the extension need?
Host access to linkedin.com and x.com to apply the hiding rules, plus chrome.storage for your local settings. It does not request access to other sites.
How do I get my server-side data deleted?
Email office@mav.gmbh with your installation ID. We delete the installation record, which consists of the ID, the hashed device secret and the licence status.
Where do I get support?
Email office@mav.gmbh. We do not publish a guaranteed response time.
The feed is still visible — what should I check?
Reload the page, confirm the rule is switched on in the popup, and confirm the licence shows as active. If an element persists after a platform redesign, add its CSS selector in the custom selectors field.

Editorial note

Platform compatibility is tested manually on LinkedIn and X before each review date shown above. LinkedIn and X change their interfaces without notice, so a rule that works today can stop matching after a layout update. When that happens, a custom CSS selector can be added in the extension and the built-in rules are updated in a later release.
