How to hide the X (Twitter) feed

An X feed blocker for the timelines, trends and suggestions — not for the whole site.

How can I hide the X or Twitter feed in Chrome?

Install Social Silencer in Chrome and switch on the X rule. The extension hides the For You and Following timelines on x.com with a CSS rule, and can optionally hide trends and account suggestions. Direct messages, notifications, search, lists and individual posts opened by link stay reachable.

To hide the X feed, use an extension that hides the timeline element on x.com instead of blocking the domain. Social Silencer hides the “For you” and “Following” timelines on the home page, and can additionally hide the trends panel and the account suggestions.

For You and Following are two separate timelines

X renders the algorithmic “For you” timeline and the chronological “Following” timeline as tabs on the same home page.

Social Silencer hides the timeline area, so both tabs stay empty of posts. Switching tabs does not bring the stream back. If you want a chronological feed on demand, turn the rule off in the popup for that session instead of using a second tool.

Optional: trends and account suggestions

The right-hand column with trending topics and “Who to follow” can be hidden with separate switches.

Set it up in four steps

Install, unlock, enable the X rule, reload x.com.

  1. Install Social Silencer in Chrome and pin it.
  2. Start the subscription from the extension; unlocking is automatic after payment.
  3. Switch on “Hide X timeline”, and optionally trends and suggestions.
  4. Reload x.com — the home timeline area stays empty.

What stays available

The extension is designed to keep direct messages, search, notifications, lists, bookmarks and individual post URLs available.

Profiles and single posts open normally, so you can still read a thread someone sent you.

Limitations you should know

X ships interface changes frequently, and a changed markup can make a bundled rule miss the timeline.

  1. After an X update an element may briefly reappear until the extension rule is updated.
  2. You can add your own CSS selector in the meantime, for example div[aria-label="Timeline: Your Home Timeline"].
  3. Posts embedded on other websites are outside the scope of the extension.
