Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
Social Silencer is a Chrome extension that hides distracting feeds on LinkedIn and X. This policy explains which data is processed when you install, use and pay for Social Silencer, and which rights you have.
Social Silencer works without user accounts. There is no registration, no login and no user profile.
1. Controller
The controller responsible for the processing described here is:
Mons Altus Ventures GmbH Neubaugasse 24 8020 Graz Austria
Website: https://mav.gmbh Email: office@mav.gmbh
2. Data stored locally in your browser
The extension stores your settings and your custom DOM selectors locally in your browser using the chrome.storage API. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our backend.
- Extension settings (which elements are hidden, on which sites)
- Custom DOM selectors you have defined yourself
- The installation identifier and the device secret described below
3. Installation identifier and device secret
To connect a purchase to your specific installation without user accounts, the extension generates two random values on first use:
- installation_id — a randomly generated identifier for this installation. It contains no information about you, your device or your browser.
- device_secret — a cryptographically random secret that authenticates requests from this installation.
- Both values are transmitted to the Social Silencer backend for checkout and license verification.
- The device_secret is never stored in plain text on the server. Only a SHA-256 hash of it is stored.
- No browser fingerprints and no hardware identifiers are created or used.
4. What we do not collect
- No content from LinkedIn or X is transmitted to our backend.
- Messages, posts, contacts, profiles and feed content are neither collected nor stored.
- No advertising or interest profiles are created.
- Personal data is not sold.
- No cookies for tracking and no analytics tools are used on this website.
5. Purposes and legal bases
- Providing the paid functionality, checkout and license verification — Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract).
- Statutory retention of billing-related information — Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR (legal obligation).
- Security, abuse and fraud prevention, rate limiting and technical error analysis (including server log data such as the IP address) — Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a secure and functioning service).
- Consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR is not relied upon, because no optional cookies and no analytics are implemented. If that changes, this policy will be updated and consent will be obtained beforehand.
6. Service providers (processors)
We use the following providers to operate Social Silencer. Where processing takes place outside the European Economic Area, it is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, additional safeguards.
| Provider | Purpose | Data categories | Transfer outside the EEA | Legal basis | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lovable (Lovable Labs Inc.) | Hosting of the website and the server routes | Request data, IP address, technical log data | Possible (USA) | Art. 6(1)(b), Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR | lovable.dev/privacy |
| Supabase (Supabase Inc.) | Database and backend infrastructure for installations, license status and rate limiting | installation_id, SHA-256 hash of the device_secret, license status, timestamps | Possible (USA) | Art. 6(1)(b), Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR | supabase.com/privacy |
| Whop (Whop Inc.) | Checkout, payment processing and subscription management | Email address, payment and billing data, subscription status, installation_id as order reference | Yes (USA) | Art. 6(1)(b), Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR | whop.com/privacy |
| Further technically required infrastructure providers (e.g. CDN, DNS, email delivery) | Delivery, availability and security of the service | Connection data, IP address, technical log data | Possible | Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR | See the respective provider's privacy policy |
7. Payment
The subscription costs USD 9.90 per month and is processed exclusively by Whop. Payment card data is entered on Whop's checkout and is not received or stored by us. We receive from Whop only the information needed to activate and maintain your license, such as the subscription status and the order reference.
8. Retention and deletion
- License data of an active subscription is retained for the duration of the subscription.
- Billing-related information may be retained for longer where statutory retention obligations require it (in Austria generally seven years).
- Technical installation data (installation_id, hashed device_secret, technical timestamps) is deleted or anonymized after the contract ends, unless legal obligations require continued retention.
- Server log data used for security and error analysis is deleted after a short period.
- You can delete the data stored locally in your browser at any time by resetting or uninstalling the extension.
9. Security
All communication between the extension, this website and our backend is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to the database is restricted to the operator and to the server-side components that require it. The device_secret is stored only as a SHA-256 hash. No transmission or storage method can be guaranteed to be absolutely secure, and we do not make such a guarantee.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- Right to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR)
- Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). In Austria this is the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde), Barichgasse 40-42, 1030 Vienna.
11. Contact
To exercise your rights or to ask questions about this policy, contact office@mav.gmbh. Because we do not operate user accounts, please include your installation_id so that we can identify the relevant data. Without it we may be unable to link data to you.
12. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the product, the providers used or the legal requirements change. The current version is always available at this page.
This privacy policy is intended to support a GDPR review. It is not legal advice and does not replace an assessment by a qualified lawyer or data protection officer.
